Damalj, August 31, 2024 (IBA) - In Damalj, near Severin on Kupa, a baptism ceremony was held for ten believers from the Baptist Church Zagreb and the Baptist Church Rijeka, in the presence of 250 believers.
After the opening prayer, pastor Željko Mraz recalled how exactly 91 years ago, on August 27, 1933, the first baptism of 38 Baptist believers in this area took place. Reading the words of Psalm 100, he called on the faithful to give thanks and honor to God.
The sermon was delivered by pastor Ivica Horvat. Speaking about baptism in water, Pastor Horvat emphasized the baptism of Jesus Christ at the beginning of his ministry, stressing the importance of the act of baptism. Water baptism is an external act that confirms that we have been buried with Christ in baptism, but we have also been resurrected with him through faith in God's power, said Horvat: 'Thus the act of baptism separates us for Jesus Christ, because all we who are baptized in Christ Jesus, we are baptized into his death. We are buried with him so that, just as Christ was raised by the glory of the Father, we too may walk in the new life.'
The act of baptism was jointly performed by Rijeka Pastor Giorgio Grlj and Zagreb's Pastor Filip Grujić. Elena, Niki, Jolanda, Dominik, Suja, Klara, Maja, Boris, Tomislav and Miron were baptized.
After the baptism, there were prayers for the blessing of the baptized. Throughout the service, the music team led the collective praise of the Lord.
At the end of the service, the gathering of believers continued on the premises of the Society of Bible Friends in Severin on Kupa, where a joint lunch was organized.
